Awareness Day in Sousse, Tunisia
On the 13th or February 2020 an Awareness day and meeting with stakeholders of the Regional Commission of Agricultural Development (CRDA) in Sousse took place. This meeting was combined with a field study for preliminary investigations and for the identification and choice of appropriate wells for the installation of sensors in the region.
The CRDA Commissioner welcomed the audience and presented the CRDA’s expectations regarding the MEDSAL project. The Head of the Water Resources District, Mr. Ridha Beji, presented the challenges regarding water resources in the region. He noted that it was necessary to consider the entire aquifer system consisting of the phreatic and deep aquifers and establish a conceptual model of this system. Then it would be necessary to study the possibilities of artificial recharge of the aquifer and extend the water analyzes to the deep water table. Ms. Fadoua Hamzaoui made a presentation of the components of the Prima MEDSAL project whose main objective is the study of the water quality of the Bouficha aquifer and the hydrodynamic and geochemical modeling of the aquifer with a view to better manage the quantity and quality of the groundwater resource. The afternoon was devoted to a visit to the Bouficha plain for prospecting and identification of appropriate wells for the installation of micro-sensors acquired in the framework of the MESAL project.
