The Cyprus University of Technology (CUT) is a recently established public university founded in 2003, and one of the three state universities in Cyprus. CUT is a dynamic university with six leading schools/faculties and 10 academic departments. The Department of Civil Engineering and Geomatics (CEG) constitutes a dynamic, stimulating and challenging environment for teaching and research of the highest international standards. A large number of research programs secured by the academic staff along with the outstanding number of publications in prominent journals and conferences indicate high-quality research and a high level of teamwork. Research is undertaken in state-of-the-art laboratory facilities and is funded through National (e.g. Cyprus Research Promotion Foundation) and European research programs (e.g. Marie Curie, FP-7, FP-6, LIFE+, EUREKA, MED, ERASMUS, HORIZON 2020, JPI, etc.). In addition, the Department is a member of International organizations, such as ΑGILE (Association of Geographic Information Laboratories in Europe), ArcLAND (Archaeological Landscapes of Europe), etc. CUT participates in MEDSAL with the Geospatial Analytics Lab (http://geospatialanalytics.cut.ac.cy). Based on its expertise, CUT will be leading WP4 Models and software tools and will be responsible for combining existing and new methodologies to develop state-of-the-art Geostatistical techniques for GWS variability analysis; a critical requirement in GWS impact assessment and decision-making studies. Overall, CUT will be the Lead Partner in 3 Tasks.

Principal Investigator and key members of the CUT team

Dr. Phaedon Kyriakidis (M) is a Professor at the Department of Civil Engineering and Geomatics of the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT), as well as an Adjunct Professor at the Department of Geography of the University California Santa Barbara (UCSB) and at the Department of Geography of San Diego State University (SDSU), both in the USA. He is currently the Dean of the School of Engineering and Technology at CUT, and a former Chair (2016-2017) of the Department of Civil Engineering and Geomatics at CUT. Dr. Kyriakidis’s research interests include geostatistics, geocomputation, and geoinformatics, as well as their applications to GIS and remote sensing, earth, atmospheric and environmental sciences. Dr. Kyriakidis has co-authored more than 60 articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals, as well as numerous contributions in conference proceedings and edited volumes.

Dr. Evaneglos Akylas (M) is an Associate Profesor at CUT and an expert in fluid mechanics and mathematical modeling. His research interests include hydrology and water quality transport phenomena in reservoirs.

Dr. Stelios Liodakis (M) is a post-doctoral researcher in CUT with expertise in mathematical modeling and geostatistics.
